3 Things Your Agent Should Do to Help You Find Your Dream Home
If you’re working with a real estate agent to buy a home, there are three things they should be doing to make your life easier and help you get your offer accepted:
1. Don’t be afraid to show that you really want a home: It’s not a game of poker. If you really want a home, there’s no shame in admitting it. The listing agent’s job is to find the best buyer for a home, so you can show your interest. At the end of the day, the seller wants to sell their house, they want to close on time, and they want a buyer who can perform. Showing interest doesn’t necessarily put you at a disadvantage when you negotiate. It lets them know they’re working with someone who can perform and really wants to get the deal done.
2. Make sure your agent includes a bio and a head shot of you with your offer: It doesn’t have to be professional—just a picture of you and your significant other and/or family. You could even include your pet. We want to get the seller and their agent emotionally involved in the transaction. The more you tug at their heartstrings, the more likely they are to listen to your offer.
3. Have your lender contact the listing agent: Make sure your lender vouches for your creditworthiness and your ability to close. You’ll then have two professionals speaking on your behalf to make sure the listing agent feels comfortable with you.
